Most of my life has revolved around horses, ever since my parents bought a small pony for my younger sister many years ago. I started riding as well as it seemed preferable to walking alongside her for miles, progressed to hunting and learning my way round the 'country' and generally really enjoying my time on horseback without really knowing what I was doing. Then somebody lent me a fascinating book on how to train horses which kindled my interest in doing it properly. I embarked on a career of learning, teaching, competing and producing horses for others.
Most particularly I was interested in the classical art of dressage, not really being brave enough to ride over big jumping courses. That's me riding the lovely Balfern Sauntering Lass at the National Championships some years ago now.
My equestrian career has led to many an adventure, including teaching in countries as far away as India, a place I have come to love, and an opportunity to spend a year in the Loire Valley training with some of the great riders of the Cadre Noir, Saumur.
